Take Back Scheme

Take Back of Industrial Batteries

In accordance with the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations (2009), Accutronics Limited is happy to take back (for recycling) industrial batteries of the following chemistries:

(a) Rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)
(b) Rechargeable Lithium Ion (Li-Ion)

To register your interest in this service please contact us by telephoning +44 (0) 1782 566688 and quote "Take-Back Scheme".

Please note that batteries are sent to Accutronics at cost to the sender and batteries must not be returned without prior arrangement.

Questions and Answers

Q: What is the definition of an industrial battery?
(i) Designed exclusively for professional or industrial uses, eg as backup and emergency supplies of electricity
(ii) Used to power machines and vehicles such as forklifts or wheelchairs
(iii) Unsealed but are not automotive batteries, or
(iv) Sealed but are not portable batteries.

Q: How should I return industrial batteries to Accutronics?
You must first contact us to register your return and to receive a returns reference number. Batteries must be packed safely and in accordance with the regulations laid down by the courier you intend to use.

Q: Can I return any type of battery to Accutronics?
Unfortunately not, due to the scope of the current legislation Accutronics can only take back industrial batteries of either NiMH or LiIon chemistries. If you have an industrial battery of another chemistry (such as Nickel Cadmium or Lead Acid) or a non rechargeable portable battery (Zinc carbon, Alkaline Manganese, Lithium etc) then please contact the company that supplied the battery to you.

Q: I am in the UK and have a Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium Ion Industrial battery which was made by a battery company other than Accutronics. Can I return the battery to Accutronics under this scheme?
If you cannot return the battery to the original producer then you can return the battery to Accutronics under this scheme.

Q: I am in the EU but not in the UK, Can I return my industrial battery to Accutronics in the UK?
Unfortunately not, you must contact the original producer that put the battery on the market in your EU country.

Q: I have a lot of industrial batteries to return, can I deliver them to Accutronics myself?
Yes, please contact Accutronics so we can prepare for your delivery.

Q: My courier is refusing to collect my industrial batteries stating that they are dangerous goods. What should I tell them?
Please contact Accutronics and we will advise the best way to proceed.

Q: Can I return laptop computer batteries to Accutronics?
Unfortunately not, due to the scope of the current legislation Accutronics can only take back industrial batteries. Laptop computer batteries (even Lithium Ion ones) are classified as portable batteries. To arrange take back of these types of batteries please contact the original producer.

Q: Can I return a car battery to Accutronics?
No, Automotive batteries are collected under a different scheme. Members of the public with waste automotive batteries can take them to their local council’s civic amenity site or recycling centre. Most garages or businesses that sell automotive batteries will take back used batteries when you buy a new one.

Q: I do not wish to send my batteries back to Accutronics or another producer for recycling, I would prefer to pay a third party to collect them from me. How can I do this?
